Privacy
Ömür keeps what you write on your own device. No account is needed, and without one nothing reaches a server. If you do make one, your calendar syncs between your devices — and below is exactly what gets stored for that, where, and how you take it away again.
Without an account
This is the default. Your date of birth, your notes, your photos and your settings live in your browser’s storage, on this device. They are not sent, not read and not backed up — not by us either. The other side of that is stated honestly: clear your browser data or lose your device and it is gone. That is why there is an export button in Settings.
The site itself fetches nothing from outside. No analytics, no ads, no trackers, no fonts from another server, no cookies. So there is no cookie banner either, because there is nothing to ask consent for.
With an account
An account is a choice you make yourself, and the only reason to make it is wanting your calendar on more than one device. You sign in with an email address and a link in your inbox — there is no password. From then on this is stored on a server:
- Your email address. To recognise you and send you the sign-in link. Nothing further: no newsletter, no mail you did not ask for.
- What you wrote. The text, the links and the files you add, with the day they belong to.
- Your settings. Your date of birth, the length of the timeline and the day your week starts on.
- What you removed. Of a deleted item, its identifier and the moment of deletion stay behind, otherwise the other device puts it back on the next sync.
Every row belongs to exactly one account, and the database enforces that rather than promising it: the key the browser carries can only reach the rows of the signed-in user. Media live in a private folder per account.
What you write down is yours
Ömür never asks about your health, your faith, your politics or your relationships. But it is a diary, and that is precisely what people write about in one. What is in your notes is up to you, we do not read it and it is used for nothing: not to build profiles, not to recommend anything, and not to train AI models. Keep what you want, and remove what you no longer want.
Why it is allowed
- Without an account
- No legal basis needed — we process no personal data, everything stays on your device.
- With an account
- Performance of the contract (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): you ask for syncing, and that is impossible without storing your data.
- Security
- Legitimate interest (art. 6(1)(f)): the log files needed to keep the site up and safe.
You have to provide nothing. Without an email address the app works in full, only without syncing. Ömür is not meant for children under 16.
Who runs it
Two parties, and for each of them what they do and where. They process only on our instructions and may not use your data for anything else.
- Supabase
- account, database and media storage — Ireland (AWS eu-west-1)
- Vercel
- hosting of the site itself — Europe, with traffic handled worldwide
Both companies are American, while the servers for this project stand in the European Union. That is the honest answer to whether your data leaves the EU: stored, it does not, and for the case where an American parent company would still need access, that is covered by the standard contractual clauses they use for it.
How long
As long as you keep it. A note you remove is gone; an account you close takes all your rows and files with it, because they hang off it. We clean up nothing on our own initiative — a timeline of your life that starts evaporating after two years would break the idea itself.
Your rights are buttons
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability. For the first five you do not have to email us — they are in Settings:
- See it and take it. Export gives you everything as a single JSON file, which you can import again or use elsewhere.
- Correct it. Every item can be opened and changed, every setting adjusted.
- Erase it. Erase everything removes your data on this device and, if you have an account, that account with everything attached to it. This cannot be undone.
If something does not work, or you want to know something that is not here, email tersintepe@gmail.com. You also always have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority; for the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
If this changes
If what gets stored changes, this page changes with it and the date at the bottom moves along. If it is something material, you read it in the app and not only here.
